Blue flag iris is native to North America and more specifically to the southeastern part of Canada (from Manitoba to the Maritime provinces) and the northeastern United States. The blue flag iris is a perennial plant with a creeping rhizome and fleshy roots, with an erect habit, forming dense clumps, even large colonies and which can reach 70 to 80 centimeters in height.
The leaves of blue flag iris, green, with parallel veins, erect then arched, gladiated (sword-shaped), have a split base and are nested one inside the other. Their width is about 1-3 centimeters and their length is 45-60 centimeters
The stem, stiff, branched, bears from May to July 3 to 5 flowers of 5 to 7 cm,
The magnificent flowers are purple and the heart of the sepals has a pattern mixing white, yellow and green with purple streaks.
