Sparaxis tricolor is a small perennial with corms from South Africa, from the Iridaceae family.
The plant is hardly more than 20 centimeters high and has an interesting flowering in a wide range of colors (red, orange, pink, yellow, white, salmon, etc.)
This species has winter development and summer vegetative rest (it comes from regions with rainy winters and dry summers).
The foliage is soft green and arranged in a fan like irises. The foliage begins to grow towards the end of September and disappears in May, the bulb being on a winter cycle.
Flowering begins in late winter early March. The multicolored flowers with 6 petals and a yellow and black center are fully open only when the weather is fine.
The fruits are dehiscent capsules separating into three parts containing round seeds of amber color.
