It is a typical salt-marsh halophilous perennial flowering plant 20 to 60 cm tall possessing lilac flowers.
It flowers in summer and early fall on cliffs and in salt marshes. The leaves are green with marked central. It is edible raw or cooked and best in the juvenile period.It cooks very easily and goes well with all meats and fish. In the Baie de Somme, we also speak of "sea spinach"
