Marsh parnassia (Parnassia palustris) is a deciduous perennial herbaceous plant of damp places belonging to the family Saxifrageaceae
It grows mainly in wet high mountain meadows, but also in marshy places, on the banks of streams, in mountain peat bogs.
It is recognizable by its 15-30 mm wide white flowers, with five white petals and transparent veins. The calyx, much smaller than the corolla, is made up of five green scales with cilia.
It flowers in July-August.
The plant usually comes in clumps and measures between 10 and 30 cm. The stem bears a single flower.
Its heart-shaped leaves are arranged at the base (basal leaves), with the exception of one which is implanted on the lower part of the stem (tail leaf).
