Dais cotinifolia was described and named by Carl Linnaeus in 1762. It has been planted in Europe as an ornamental plant since the end of the 18th century
It comes from South Africa from Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Madagascar and Comoros.
It is a shrub 1m50 to 3m high with a rounded port that may be deciduous or persistent depending on the climate.
Simple, alternate blue-green oval leaves 5-7 cm long.
In summer, small fragrant pink flowers arranged in rounded umbels 5 cm in diameter.
Flowering of Dais cotinifolia takes place from June to August.
