Its name Philodendron comes from the Greek 'philo' which means friend and 'dendron' which designates the tree alluding to the fact that it leans on the surrounding trees, and its specific name selloum was given to it in memory of the gardener naturalist, Prussian collector Friedrich Sello (Sellow) (1789 – 1831), who from 1811, on the advice of Humboldt and on behalf of English botanists (Herbarium of Willdnow) took part in numerous expeditions to southern Brazil and Uruguay
Native to South America, Philodendron Bipinnatifidum (or selloum) is a robust tropical plant with enormous leaves that can reach 1 m in diameter.
These rigid sheets are deeply cut and wide, very decorative. Its vigorous growth allows it to easily reach 3 to 5 meters in height. The plant also forms large aerial roots that allow it to take advantage of ambient humidity.
The Philodendron Bipinnatifidum, unlike other philodendrons, is not a climbing vine. It forms an airy rosette of cut and wide leaves, very decorative. As it grows, this philodendron forms a trunk surmounted by the tuft of leaves.
The old subjects produce white flowers which exude a very sweet perfume in the evening.
