A good-sized evergreen tree that can measure up to 30 meters in height, curiously this tree does not lose its leaves until spring, when rather than losing them it renews them for new ones without ever being devoid of them. It is widely used as an ornamental species for its beautiful toothed leaves that are usually accompanied by spectacular and huge white flowers in spring-summer, very popular in Asia as an ornamental while in other areas such as Central America it is used for construction. It is ideal for winter or very severe areas since it has a subtropical character.

Planting and cultivation data
It is affected by strong frosts, it does not like strong exposure to the sun, but shady areas are not favorable for it either. Its favorite soils are rich, deep, fresh and low in limestone. If there is a lack of mineral in the soil, the tree can suffer some type of chlorosis, making it easy to detect. It does not usually suffer attacks from pests-diseases, but not when it floods. the terrain also helps a lot to prevent them.
Sowing should be done especially in autumn, although spring is not bad either, it is always best to take the seeds and clean them and then leave them in the fridge for 2-3 months in a damp cloth or in a moist sandy mixture (cold stratification). Subsequently, leave the seed to soak for 24 hours and sow in a warm-bright-sheltered place, ideally using a sandy mixture or something type of substrate with perlite. The exact germination period is variable, usually weeks or months but once hatched the seedlings grow very quickly.
