Wonderful Physocarpus Festivus Gold Ninebark Shrub Garden Plant

Often known as common ninebark or Atlantic ninebark, Physocarpus opulifolius are valued for their beauty as well as their ability to grow in harsh conditions. 'Festivus Gold' possesses both of these qualities and more! It's a compact, mounded cultivar that's particularly prized for its lovely yellow foliage. The maple-like leaves emerge golden yellow in spring, slowly turning to a chartreuse-lime green by midsummer, and finally to yellow with bronze tinting come fall. White (usually tinged with pink), five-petaled blooms appear in flat, rounded, spiraea-like clusters in late spring -- a wonderful complement to the attractive foliage! The color show doesn't stop there, though! After flowering, red seeds appear in the fall, and once the leaves have gone, you're left with an upright twiggy structure with vertically cracking, exfoliating, orange-brown bark.
